Interim at De Telefoongids
In August 2004 Ontheroot was asked to replace the manager of the ICT Product Maintenance team, he reported sick after several high-pressure projects. The initial task was to re-vitalize the team and re-install the manager, but this changed very soon into changing the maintenance team into a development team and search for a new manager.
The approach Ontheroot chose was one of stabilizing the team before changing it's way of working. All team members worked for a long time under high pressure and demanding customers, resulting in high sick leave and low productivity. Stabilizing the team required shielding the team members from the "demanding" outside world, organizing work and an inventory of future wishes of the customers.
Changing the focus of the team required replacement of the external maintenance and development contractors. Ontheroot coordinated the hiring and introduction of software developers and an architect.
During the process of change, management of De Telefoongids decided to move the ICT product development unit into the e-media business unit. Ontheroot managed the carve-out of the unit and made sure that business staid "as-usual". Further change in development process, project planning and incident management was needed to integrate the team into the e-media business unit. The e-media unit being more sales driven required a flexible and fast-moving ICT Unit.
As the result of Ontheroot effort in change management: today the unit is the fast moving, flexible unit capable of handling the demands of the customers.
